Scarsdale New York
I’m an internationally known clarinet soloist with a long career as a teacher, clinician, concert soloist, orchestral clarinetist, chamber musician and recording artist.
My website is: www.drdranchclarinetist.com. I attended the Eastman School of Music where I was a student of Stanley Hasty. I studied with numerous great clarinetists such as: Jacques Lancelot, Robert Marcellus, Joseph Rabbai, Charles Neidich, Kalmen Opperman, Leon Russianoff, to name a few. I have a doctorate in Clarinet Performance with an Education Minor from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I was a Teaching Assistant for 5 years–two at the Masters Level and three at the Doctoral Level, where I taught clarinet methods class, sight-singing and sight-reading, Theory I, Chamber Music, and so forth.
I have taught several clarinet students here in Edgemont, the most recent of which attained NYSSMA Level 6 with a 100% rating (grade) at the end of their 9th grade.
I’m looking to broaden my reach to help other clarinet students who are serious about music, and with the clarinet as their primary instrument. Here in the community I have been performing with the Westchester Band under the direction of Alan Hollander for the past 10 years where I also annually perform as clarinet soloist. I also perform at the Lehman C.U.N.Y. orchestra and Band regularly, and with the Putnam Chamber Chorale Orchestra in Brewster, N.Y. I am principal clarinet with the Greenwich Village Orchestra, and am scheduled to solo with the Brooklyn Symphony April 24, 2022. I’ve performed chamber recitals at the Ardsley Country Club, and performed annually for over 26 years at Lincoln Center in NYC in a chamber Music series, “Gary Dranch & Friends.” I also performed with the 'Con Brio Ensemble' during 2019-2020. I've performed in local places of worship such as at Kol Ami Synagogue Congregation, doing fund-raisers and benefit concerts. I have participated in the Edgemont Jr/Sr High School PTSA – Spring Fete annually, donating private clarinet lessons.
In years past I was the clarinet coach/instructor at AMEROPA, a chamber music festival in Prague, The Czech Republic from 2005-2007, and have been invited back. I recruited and taught a Serbian student there, who I also helped to obtain a scholarship to attend the Interlocken Academy of Music. I also gave master classes in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and in Porto Alegre, Brasil.
I find teaching to be one of the most gratifying activities, and is part of my professional “ethos” as a way of giving back to the community in which I have resided for over eighteen years.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
